Discover Archaeology

Join University of Illinois Extension Educator Susan Sloop on an exciting, weekly archaeological adventure!

We'll be sharing the program each Thursday at 2 pm on Facebook. Please join us!

Weekly themes will be:

June 4: Sandpaper Petroglyphs      Tell a story the way the Native Americans and cave painters of Lascaux did.

June 11: Ancient Stone Circle       Imagine and build your own mini-stone circle, and think about its meaning and purpose.

June 18: Picture Writing         Create a scroll using hieroglyphics, the writing system invented by the Egyptians more than 5,000 years ago

June 25: Big Dig/Little Dig    Dig for history treasures (artifacts) at home! Learn how archaeologists dig and record their findings.

July 2: Cahokia Mounds    Decorate your own pot.  What would it tell archaeologists about you?

July 9: Time Capsule     Hunt for history at home and put together a family time capsule. You can even write clues or create a treasure map to find it.
