Marshall Public Library begins renovation project

Marshall Public Library will hold their "groundbreaking" ceremony Wednesday October 10th at 10:00 AM at the library. The library will be under construction for approximately four months and plans to remain open during the majority of the construction. The project is being completed by Evan and Ryan Electrical Contractors out of Terre Haute, IN. Local foreman Tom Christian will be leading the project under the direction of architect group Farnsworth. Renovations will include a new handicap accessible vestibule, updated computer lab, new staff workroom and restroom, new study room, modernized teen area, as well as improved restrooms, carpeting and paint.

Everyone is encouraged to continue using the library during the renovation, library staff will be able to assist patrons in locating items. Patrons may also use the library's online book and DVD catalog system. Patrons will receive a text when the item is ready for pick up.

The library's project is funded by a generous donation from former Handy Writer Colony member and author Sonny Daly and Illinois State Library's Live and Learn Construction grant.

Exchange Food for Fines in November

Canned FoodIf you owe a fine for late materials at Marshall Public Library – no matter how large or small – you can exchange it for a few cans of food for the local food bank from November 1 through November 30th.  “Food for Fines” gives anyone owing the library a fine for late books, DVDs, magazines, CDs, or audio tapes the opportunity to have the charges erased from their library card record and to have their library borrowing privileges restored.  If any “lost” library materials are returned, the materials charges will be converted to overdue fines which may also be waived by donating food items. Please bring in at least one non-perishable food item for every $5.00 in fines owed and we will donate the food to the Marshall Ministerial Alliance Food and Clothing Bank.  It’s a great way to help the community, the library, and yourself!
