Look at some of the terrific things the Friends have done in the past year! They held their annual membership program featuring The National Road in June; continued digitizing newspapers on microfilm beginning with those from the 1800’s; continued to collect interviews for their oral history program; ; provided lunch for the staff on National Library Worker’s Day; and provided refreshments and assistance for children’s programs. They also participated in the Main Street Program Adopt-a-Flower Pot Project; continued to sell donated and deleted materials, received funds from their ink cartridge recycling program; and challenged Marshall 5th graders to a Heifer International “Read to Feed” reading program. They funded nearly $5,600 in purchases for the library, including children’s programs, adult reading program prizes, small equipment and supplies, a sign at the baseball field, and more.
The activities of the Friends of Marshall Public Library are vital to making our library a special part of the community and surrounding area. We hope you will join us in supporting the library by becoming a member today. Whether you choose to be an active Friends member or not, your support is appreciated. Membership dues are just $5.00 for an individual or $10.00 for an entire family. Of course, higher levels of giving and larger donations are always appreciated.
If you are interested in becoming an active member of our group, please come to the Friends meetings from 5:00 to 6:00 PM on the first Thursday of July, September, November, January, March, and May. That’s only six meetings per year! The Friends are particularly in need of help with collecting interviews from Marshall’s older adults so their memories of years past can be recorded for future generations.
This document is the official bylaws with revisions approved by unanimous vote at the September 4th, 2009 Friends of the Library meeting.
